Outreach

The results of the project are planned to disseminate to two key audiences: 1) the academia, and 2) the ‘general’ public: non-experts, school teachers, and students.

The impact of the project on the academia will be achieved through the organization of regular round rables for the participants of the project and targeted specialists, an invited two-day workshop, and one international conference, which will be open to specialists from different disciplines whose work is relevant to the core idea of the project. In addition, the publication of papers in international peer-reviewed journals and the writing up of a significant edited volume will make the results of the project accessible to international academia.

The impact of the research on the broader public will attempt to make scientific knowledge accessible to non-specialists and familiarize citizens with the ‘odd’ practice of the burning of the human body. Information and news about the project will be fed regularly on the website, which, alongside social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), will offer an open and dynamic platform for productive feedback and group discussions of the activities undertaken. In addition, specially designed educational material for classroom and museum activities, linking to the primary and secondary education curriculum, will be uploaded and become available on the website for teachers and students with the scope to build knowledge-based on archaeology and raise students’ awareness of contested contemporary issues, such as the cremation of the human body and its transformation into ‘ashes.’

The website will include progress reports and summarized tables of preliminary analytical work undertaken in the various components of the project.
