Papadiokampos

The Bronze Age settlement at Papadiokampos lies just west of the Trachilos Peninsula and occupies a strategic position on the natural division between the Mirabello and the Siteia Bays. The rescue excavations started in 2004 by the 24th Ephorate of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture with the assistance of the Institute for Aegean Prehistory (INSTAP). The remains of several houses dating to the Protopalatial and the Neopalatial period have been recovered. The Neopalatial part of the settlement consists of four isolated houses which according to the study of findings belonged to social groups with distinct economic activities and social status.  A cremation burial was found in the ruins of House B.1. The burnt bones were placed in an urn (the upper part was not preserved to know the exact shape of the vessel) and accompanied by a stirrup jar.
